COX COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT TO SELL ADVANCED WIRELESS SPECTRUM TO VERIZON WIRELESS

Cox Communications announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell to Verizon Wireless its 20 MHz Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum licenses covering 28 million POPs for $315 million. The sale of Cox's AWS spectrum to Verizon Wireless is an important step to ensure that consumers' growing demands for mobility will be met. This agreement does not include Cox's 700 MHz spectrum licenses, the company's Cox Wireless customer accounts or any other assets.

Separately, Cox and Verizon Wireless will also become agents to sell each other's residential and commercial products and services through their respective sales channels. Over time, Cox may have the option to sell Verizon Wireless' services on a wholesale basis. In addition, Cox expects to enter into arrangements with the innovation technology joint venture formed by Verizon Wireless, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks to better integrate wireline and wireless products and services.

"These agreements provide Cox customers with key enablers to mobility, such as access to Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network and iconic wireless devices," said Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications. "We look forward to the many benefits this will bring to customers."

The sale and transfer of Cox's advanced wireless spectrum to Verizon Wireless is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission and review under the Hart-Scott Rodino Act and other customary conditions.

Cox announced last month that it would no longer sell its Cox Wireless service, but would continue to provide service to its wireless customers through March 30, 2012.

From Chilly Climes To Sunny Spots, Verizon Wireless Customers Enjoy Hot 3G Connections This Winter
Nation’s Largest, Most Reliable 3G Network Enhanced in Hawaii, Florida, Indiana, Michigan
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless customers looking to cure the winter blues by heading to popular warm weather spots will enjoy the nation’s largest and most reliable 3G network thanks to recent network enhancements.
Two new cell sites in Hawaii have residents and travelers in Poipu, Kauai, and Waianae, O’ahu, saying “Aloha!” The Poipu, Kauai, site expands 3G wireless coverage and capacity in east Poipu, including popular vacation spots such as Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and the Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course. The site in Waianae, O’ahu, has customers not only enjoying fun and sun along the stretch of beaches on the Farrington Highway but also expanded 3G wireless coverage and capacity. Plus, in anticipation of a significant increase in wireless activity from thousands of customers Jan. 30 at Aloha Stadium, Verizon Wireless activated a temporary mobile cell site called a COLT (Cell on Light Truck) to keep football fans in the action.
The Sunshine State is also a little brighter for customers thanks to Verizon Wireless’ $195 million investment during 2010 in Florida. This investment further enhanced wireless services and network coverage across the state, home to many popular vacation destinations.
Chilly Midwesterners might be facing below zero temperatures, but new cell sites in Indiana and Michigan provide Verizon Wireless customers with fast and reliable 3G wireless coverage as they prepare to head to warmer climates. Indiana residents in Bloomington, Crawfordsville, Greencastle, Indianapolis and St. Croix enjoy improved data coverage with five new cell sites that boost 3G coverage. Icy temperatures and cold waters surrounding the Great Lakes State won’t keep Michigan residents from booking travel to warmer climates online on their mobile devices thanks to Verizon Wireless’ more than $221.3 million network investment in 2010 that included building 45 new cell sites and upgrading equipment on more than 600 existing cell sites.
The Verizon Wireless 3G broadband network carries the millions of data sessions for customers using the latest verizon wireless devices, including verizon tablets, verizon laptops, verizon iphone, verizon cell phone and other smart phones . Verizon Wireless’ network enhancements are part of the company’s aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for voice and data services. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $65 billion in its nationwide network since it was formed – $6 billion on average every year.

Keep Your Phone Connection Warm During The Cold In Texas: Tips From Verizon Wireless
DALLAS, TX — With an Arctic front bearing down on North Texas promising colder temperatures during football’s biggest week, Verizon Wireless, offers the following tips to help consumers use their wireless phones when it’s cold outside:
  • Keep your Verizon iphone, verizon cell phones and smartphones fully charged. Cold temperatures can run down the phone’s battery charge more quickly. Use a car charger to keep the verizon phone’s charge if you get stranded or stuck in traffic on icy or snowy roads. Think about an extra battery as backup.
  • Handle your verizon phone with care. The display screen can become brittle when exposed to cold temperatures for long periods of time.
  • Keep your verizon phone in a warm place; avoid leaving it in an outside pocket or backpack or in the car overnight. When outside in the cold weather, carry your verizon phone in an inside jacket pocket, keeping it close to your body for warmth.
  • Remember you can’t dial or access the keyboard on a touch screen with gloves, so consider investing in a pair of finger-flip gloves.
  • Download free winter apps to your verizon phone from Android Market™.

Order a Verizon Security and Backup Bundle and Get 3 Months Free

Order a Verizon Security and Backup Bundle and Get 3 Months Free
by

When you’ve got a good product and a good offer to go with it, consumers will take advantage of it.

Such is the case with Verizon’s recent offer of the first three months free when you sign up for a bundle of Verizon Internet Security Suite and Verizon Online Backup and Sharing.  Based on consumer response to the offer, which was first rolled out last summer, we’re going to continue it beyond its scheduled expiration date this week.

That means for the next few months you’ll still be able to get three months of free access to an award-winning, McAfee-powered Internet security service for up to three computers, as well as the 50 GB (gigabyte) version of backup, when you sign up for a Verizon bundles of the two services.  At the end of the three month period, if you decide you like the services and want to continue using them, you’ll be automatically billed a discounted monthly rate of $10.

Why is online security so important? Millions of Americans become victims of identity theft every year, with combined losses of personal wealth in the billions of dollars.

Online security experts have been lecturing for years about the need for adequate security software for home computers to help thwart malware and unscrupulous individuals looking to tap into personal databases.

Verizon Internet Security Suite gives consumers one of the most powerful protection plans on the market, backed by the respected McAfee name, and it’s available for both Windows and Mac operating systems.

While backing up of these same databases is also critical, Verizon Online Backup and Sharing is much more than a backup service.  It allows you to give friends and family members instant online access to photo albums, home movies or other personal media files you’ve backed up through the secure, offsite data storage service.  Or you could use it to share with business associates data files you’ve stored on the service.  At the same time, Verizon Online Backup and Sharing automatically backs up designated files and databases on your computers so you never have to worry about whether a photo or file has been lost.  Simply set it and relax.

Three months of free service.  It’s the kind of test drive you would welcome for just about any product or service.
